Under Prestigious ‘Digital India Project’ BSNL has decided to install nearly 100 Free WiFi Zones in Rural Villages in association with Facebook.
State owned Telecom Company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has announced to setup around 100 Free WiFi Hotspots in Rural India partner with giant Social network Facebook. Under this project BSNL will support in providing the back-haul internet bandwidth for planned 100 rural areas.
According to the latest information from BSNL official sources, Facebook plans to invest around Rs.5 crore per annum for this ‘Digital India Project’ in providing Free WiFi Services across the country. BSNL already tie-up with M/s Quad Gen for installing Free WiFi Hotspots in Southern regions and Free Hotspots M/s Trimax pvt Ltd in Northern regions. Under this pilot program BSNL already covered Free WiFi services across 25 villages in southern and Northern India.
Through this project BSNL regain its position and acquire more number of connection will benefit increase in Revenue to provide more services to customers across India.
BSNL already started its Free WiFi services by installing WiFi Hotspots in Tourist places like, TajMahal, Mahabalipuram, Puri Jagannath Temple, Kankaria Lake and Subarmathi River front, Tankbund of Hyderabad City in Telangana, Visakapatanam and few areas in Andhrapradesh State, Southern zones Karnataka, Kerala and Tamilnadu.
In a statement on this occasion BSNL CMD Anupam Srivastav said that ‘Facebook has chosen 100 villages to provide Wi-Fi hotspots on a revenue-sharing model. It will spend Rs 5 lakh per site a year for buying bandwidth from BSNL for a period of three years. We are aiming to complete the WiFi rollout by December 31 this year'.
He also added, ‘In future WiFi services will play key role in connecting all areas through internet services we are here to provide high-speed broradband internet connectivity to all customers across India.
Free WiFi Hotspots areas in Hyderabad City
With BSNL WiFi project, customer can avail high-speed internet connectivity for the first half an hour. The WiFi network has capacity to allow an average of 2000 individuals to latch on at the same time.
