Eastern Railway launches Women Safety Mobile app R-Mitra

To ensure Women’s safety across the country Eastern railway has developed ‘R-Mitra’ mobile app for its women suburban passengers.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu launched mobile app for instant tracking response and assistance (R-Mitra) for women safety. Eastern Railway mobile app if any emergency occurs on single press button sends alert message to RPF inspector and divisional security control room to rescue.

With help of inbuilt GPS and GPRS feature in mobile app on pressing the button send physical location of the victim to the control room to track the user make certain action immediately. Mobile app works on both conditions Offline by sending SMS to helpline number 56161 and Online by pressing button. In addition victim can call security helpline number 182 for help.

Speaking to media Railway Minister said, ‘Around 2.7 crore to 3 crore people travel in the Indian Railways system on a day-to-day basis. Different types of crimes are committed by anti-social elements. It is a big challenge to deal with crime in railway properties’.

Minister also added, ‘It’s incredible flexible system and will also act a deterrent’. Hence, this mobile app has been developed to deal with it and is by far the best so far’ he said.
